First trip to Morocco: practical tips before you go
Money, dress, getting around and the small habits that make a first visit easier.
Money
The local currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). Cards work in many hotels and larger shops, but cash is still king in souks, taxis and small cafés, so keep some small notes handy.
What to wear
Light, loose clothing that covers shoulders and knees is comfortable and respectful, especially in medinas and villages. Bring a warm layer: desert and mountain nights get cold, even in summer.
Getting around
Medina lanes are a maze — that is part of the charm. Arranging a pickup with your hosts saves a lot of searching on arrival, especially at night.
